Jay Cutler is facing some serious backlash on social media after posing with a Sable antelope he killed on a hunting trip in South Africa.
The retired NFL quarterback, best known for his eight seasons with the Bears, posted the photos of himself with the wild animal on Instagram over the weekend.
“Kicked off the Africa hunt with a beauty,” Cutler captioned his post. “Sable down.”
The comments section lit up the 42-year-old Cutler, who has spent much of his free time hunting since retiring from the NFL in 2017.
“I went to Africa on a safari and saw the most incredible wildlife and never once thought about murdering them,” replied one follower, with another posting: “This is nothing to brag about.”
A third wrote: “Wow, Jay. You killed a wild animal in a place it’s rarely hunted and it had zero idea you were a threat. Suppeeerrrr impressive buddy.”
Cutler appears undeterred by the pushback.
On Sunday, he posted a video of himself hunting antelope – and celebrating his kills with friends.
Then, he made another post Monday with more wild animals he appeared to have hunted, which he captioned: “Another great day.”

I agree 100% with you. 👍
I used to eat those Russian hogs we have in Tennessee...
Should have made it clear that I was talking about deer only. My SIL knew people in out in the country too poor to feed their families.Needed deer for meat.
Lousy rotten illegals shoulld hunt near Alligator Alcatraz.
Plus taxidermy and shipping. At least another 5k.
Nice.
Seen them in S.TX but not near as big.
Social media never seen one killed and eaten alive by a pride of lions.
But they feel good about whining about things they have no idea about.
aka stooges
Cutler sucked as Denver’s QB
I have never been “poor”...I was a design engineer before I retired and we’ve eaten squirrel, rabbit, deer, black bear, Russian Boar for years....We enjoyed getting into the woods and bringing home fresh meat to enjoy...
Now you go on to the grocery store and buy your meats, but you don’t have any real reason to put people down who enjoy eating fresh wild game....
They all have Russian in them by now. Although I have hunted in LA and most of the hogs are predominantly of Spanish variety.
I eat the younger ones (60 to 100 lbs. or so.)
That is a great trophy. And it’s not like he killed something that’s endangered.
I don't hate morons who think that meat comes from the grocery store, wrapped in plastic on foam trays.
I find them both pitiable and contemptible.
But in order to actually hate them, I'd first have to respect them.
He was worse in Chicago?
The countries there encourage this and set it up this way, just like the USA. They use the money from the hunts to support and manage the numbers of each species to make sure the populations are healthy. Animals can overpopulate, leading to major wipeouts of herds from disease. Deer with wasting disease is an example in the USA.
Managed hunting is why we have nice herds of healthy animals.
NICE really Nice rack, better than 1970’s Adrienne Barbeau.
Hate those poachers and love elephants.
And I contribute toSheldrick Wildlife Trust in Africa that rescues wild animals, especially young elephants and rhinos whose parents have been shot by poachers.
My cousin is a prolific pistol hunter who has been to Africa numerous times. What people don’t realize is these hunts often FUND the nearby villages. His group paid $40,000.00 to hunt PREY animals. For the ignorant, PREY animals breed prolifically - meaning there are PLENTY of them. Anyway, that ONE hunt funded the community needs of that village for a year. The villagers asked only ONE question. “WHEN are you coming back?”
