Jay Cutler is facing some serious backlash on social media after posing with a Sable antelope he killed on a hunting trip in South Africa.
The retired NFL quarterback, best known for his eight seasons with the Bears, posted the photos of himself with the wild animal on Instagram over the weekend.
“Kicked off the Africa hunt with a beauty,” Cutler captioned his post. “Sable down.”
The comments section lit up the 42-year-old Cutler, who has spent much of his free time hunting since retiring from the NFL in 2017.
“I went to Africa on a safari and saw the most incredible wildlife and never once thought about murdering them,” replied one follower, with another posting: “This is nothing to brag about.”
A third wrote: “Wow, Jay. You killed a wild animal in a place it’s rarely hunted and it had zero idea you were a threat. Suppeeerrrr impressive buddy.”
Cutler appears undeterred by the pushback.
On Sunday, he posted a video of himself hunting antelope – and celebrating his kills with friends.
Then, he made another post Monday with more wild animals he appeared to have hunted, which he captioned: “Another great day.”

That meat will be gobbled up by some village or sold by the trackers. Sadly won’t be medium rare.
I taught my son when he was young that you shoot the first LEGAL deer you see when hunting...”You can’t eat antlers, son...”
He has taken that to heart for the last 35 years...
The best response of the Y-T-D...
What a total ass wipe. Animal looks better than he does and was smarter than he is too.
I absolutely hate people who kill animals except poor people in the country who shoot deer to feed their families. But that’s not a “sport”.
Cutler made $122M over 12 years, and he was never a good quarterback. He did make a Pro Bowl in 2008. Better than Alex Smith.
Then, when he retired, his wife divorced him because he spent too much time with the children.
You’re exactly right.
Guaranteed this was a guided hunt by a black African who—
1. Kept Jay alive.
2. Is licensed by his country, and
3. is 51% (at least) responsible for Jay even getting close enough for the shot.
The guide(s) make a good living, likely far above their neighbors.
Also our guides were trained members of the anti-poaching squad and guided by day / hunted poachers by night. So they had a government salary plus the money paid by the hunting party.
That’s true.
It’s not just “poor people” who love to eat venison (deer)....
Exactly.
Oh no!
Not backlash from the internet warriors of social media!
I have an old high school friend who in years past, went on two African hunting safaris. Both cost in excess of $30K......
With he and wife being avid hunters, on his second trip to Africa, his wife went to Alaska on a guided caribou hunt.....
Jay Cutler was always an easy guy for people to hate on due to his personality, but they’re gonna go after him harder than others, simply cuz he’s a Trump guy who had ‘2000 Mules’ cited on his podcast with Brian Urlacher a while back.
And each targeted animal requires a costly permit, which are highly regulated.
There’s some MEAT on that antelope!
🤣😂 Savin’ ta Erf! Good angle!
I'm assuming you support the poor African poachers then too?
The permit sales for specific animals goes to fund the military responsible for hunting down the poachers that would decimate all the wildlife in Africa, even the beloved elephants.
Have no clue what you have no clue about.
Sometimes you gotta get rid of a nasty inedible old wild boar hog. Feed the notes and buzzards.
