OKALOOSA COUNTY, FlA. - A teenage girl is recovering after being bitten by a 10-foot alligator, according to the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred in Pond Creek, about 20 to 25 miles northeast of Destin.

Officials said the alligator bit 14-year-old Sumer Hinote on the leg, dragged her underwater, and shook her violently.

.Deputies said she fought back by punching the animal in the head and managed to escape with the help of a friend.

Hinote suffered severe lacerations to her leg but did not lose it. Her mother rushed her to first responders for treatment.

The alligator has not been captured, and the family is urging visitors to exercise caution around the creek.

The difference between a 6 footer and 10 footer is amazing.

This needs to be posted all over AlagatorAlcatraz.

“See, if you try and escape you CAN live thru it, just punch the gator in the nose.”
“Mind, if WE (the guards) catch up to you we will simply shoot you and let the other gators have a snack.”

What was she doing there? That place has skeeters bigger than elephants and water that tastes like it came out of the toilet.

Any fresh water deeper than a puddle in Florida is liable to have a gator in it. When will people ever learn?

Between gators and especially pythons, if I never go back to Florida it will not be any time too soon.

There are human-hating two legged creatures who insist all types of predators must be coddled and allowed to run wild.

“Looking for the AlligatorGirl transformation akin to Spiderman”

Use Alligator Alcatraz as a movie backdrop.

“Gators need killin’.”

I can attest to that as long as we humans get killed also. The gators have been living in the waters of Florida for over a million years, long before humans entered their area. They have been eating anything careless enough to get next to the waters for about the same time. So, was anyone killed for going into their domain and now complaining about the way it works there? No the gators are called guilty for just being gators. We complain about immigrants coming into this country and trying to change the way we live. Same/same.

It equates to going into the ocean, wearing a wet suit dark in color, swimming in deeper water, and wondering why they were shark bit when they look like a seal. (Shark week)

They walked into the dark alley.

Interestingly, that is true today. Look at the range map of the Salt Water Crocodile. Vietnam is clearly and solidly in it’s range. But in all the stories of the Vietnam War, and in tourism today....no stories of salties in Vietnam.
Turns out in Vietnam they eat them! A saltie there over 3 feet long is quickly caught and roasted as street food.

#27: "Any fresh water deeper than a puddle in Florida is liable to have a gator in it. When will people ever learn?"

Bingo. EXACTLY. You don't even need to in the water to be killed. Just walking within striking distance of water's edge is sufficent to get killed. Many dog walkers have disappeared into the stomach of an alligator.

I was stationed at MacDill.   I separated from the Air Force there and we went back to Georgia.   We rolled up our rugs and took half the beach back home with us.   I like crunchy peanut butter but not when the sand is what is crunching.
