Let’s hope the other inmate didn’t decide to stash his luggage in a train station locker for a few days so he didn’t have to carry it everywhere.

It's right here on the inventory list of property returned to prisoner leaving:

Beret, black, 1
Shirt, striped blue, 1
Wallet, leather with 103 francs
Duffle bag which inexplicably shouts "merde!" when dropped, 1
