Yes, and there also should be no distinction for “attempted” murder, just “murder.” If your intention is to kill someone and you take direct action to carry it out, whether you succeed or not should not matter. The punishment for the crime should be conditioned on the threat you present to others, and you shouldn’t get special leniency just because you got unlucky and your victim survived.
We used to execute rapists, it’s ridiculous that we go easy on some murderers for no reason other than that their victim got lucky and lived. As an example, every piece of crap little gangbanger that goes around indiscriminately shooting into homes should go away for life (or preferably be executed), regardless of whether they succeeded in killing anyone. The threat they present to society is the same either way.
Indeed. Particularly with the poor training, hyper-aggressive attitude, and low intelligence of today’s police officers ... sending them after someone really is assaulting the target with a deadly weapon. SWATting IS attempted murder.
