American Pope Leo interrupts vacation at Castle Gandolfo for urgent political message that defies Trump's agenda
Pope Leo urged the faithful around the world to combat climate change during his prayer for the Texas flood victims in another thinly-veiled jab at President Donald Trump.
'We live in a world that is burning, both because of global warming and armed conflicts,' the American-born pontiff said Wednesday as he led a small, outdoor mass in Castel Gandolfo - an Italian hill town about an hour's drive from Rome, where the Holy Father is currently on holiday.
Leo, who offered up prayers for victims of the flash flooding in Texas that has killed more than 100 people, said the world needed to change its mindset about the planet and what is causing 'the world to burn.'
'We have to pray for the conversion of many people...who still do not see the urgency of caring for our common home,' he told the congregation.
The Holy Father added that the Catholic church was committed to speaking about the issue, 'even when it requires the courage to oppose the destructive power of the princes of this world'.
He did not mention specifically name Trump in his prayer, though the comment undoubtedly was taking aim at the Republican whose critics have held sweeping 'No Kings' protests across the US in recent weeks.
Trump has vowed to root out top government scientists who believe in climate change. He quickly withdrew the US from the Paris Accord after assuming office earlier this year.

Pope Leo urged the faithful around the world to combat climate change...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Note to Pope Leo, there is someone else’s hands who control the climate.....and this was an event He called well in advance.
Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.
“...they don’t see this coming...”
You might want to re-examine your base premise.
So was the temple in Jerusalem.
My Catholic study Bible says the meaning of those passages describing the construction of the tabernacle, and later the temple, and all their contents, is that we must give our best to God. Hence, the use of silver and gold in their construction. And precious stones for the high priest's garments.
Even poor Israelites were expected to contribute to the building of the tabernacle, the temple, and all their contents.
The elaborate (and sometimes pricey) decorations within Catholic churches continues that tradition begun by Moses.
And you thought the L—d was mad at the money changers in front of the temple...
I doubt it.
I don't see any "thinly-veiled jab."
Some conservatives behave like leftists; they are looking to be offended.
I don't see what the money changers have to do with Pope Leo's comments on climate change.
I'm born and raised Detroit, but I do say howdy to people sometimes. To people south of the Mason-Dixon I'm sure my accent is a dead give away, but I'm not trying to fool anyone. To quote one of the greatest of all time; "I ain't no ways tard".
“Distinctly South American “
Distinctly Southern.
South America is below the equator.
Here we go again…
Asking for a friend in Israel.
I guess he feels the world needs more weather modification to change the climate to fight climate change
Maybe he should ask that pagan idol of his to change the climate.
Maybe pray to gia ?
OK. What, exactly, does Leo think we should do? Shut down industry? That will make the poor a lot poorer. Shut down refineries and coal / oil based power plants? What do we do then? Go back to burning wood? Or does he think that wind and solar power will supply all our needs? If he is that stupid, then we really do need to pray to God to provide our power needs.
The pope's tv remote only has one gilded button for pre-approved religious programming; https://www.cnn.com/videos/world/2023/12/03/exp-latin-america-climate-change-stefano-pozzebon-pkg-120303aseg2-cnni-world.cnn
With access like he has it's easy to see his key role (vocation) of informing stupid Catholics worldwide. Bless him /s.
“No no, I’m referring to Robert Francis Prevost, who spent a couple decades working in Peru, probably on global warming as well as his accent.”
That was unclear. You referred to south of the Mason-Dixon line.
Which was my immediate response the day Leo was selected to be a pope. The forces of evil have come together to stop POTUS Trump and the election of an American to be a pope is not even close to a coincidence!!
See this article:
Leo also highlighted the need of “conversion” for those who do not yet prioritize “the urgency of caring for our common home,” saying:
At the beginning of Mass, we prayed for conversion, our conversion. I would like to add that we must pray for the conversion of many people, inside and outside the Church, who still do not recognize the urgency of caring for our common home.
The last two popes have seemed to be more concerned about converting souls to the "care for the 'common home'", than they about converting souls to Jesus Christ. Our home is Heaven not on this earth.
That’s sad to hear. Thanks
Let’s say a given Pope dislikes the poliicies of a world leader. I fail to see where the Bible then supports a Pope for displaying personal animus.
Which is?
That they don’t see this coming.
For later
