A beloved restaurant in California, that claims the invention of an iconic Los Angeles staple, has announced it will close its doors for good after 117 years as rampant crime continues to wreck havoc in LA.
Cole's French Dip, inventor of the French Dip Sandwich, announced it will permanently close on August 3 due to the rampant crime in the area that has been felt by businesses throughout LA.
'After exhaustive deliberation and numerous attempts at last ditch efforts, our beloved Los Angeles institution, Cole's, Originators of the French Dip, has made the difficult decision to close its doors,' a spokesperson said in a statement to DailyMail.com.
'The litany of reasons for closing are not unique to Cole's alone; they are affecting most independent restaurants in Los Angeles...Many Historical Independent Restaurants are struggling under the weight of these issues and have already closed, while those remaining are fighting to survive.'

Bon apetit!
Yeah, knew what I was getting into. Decent tasting with garbage nutrition. Need to give into the desires now and then. Back to fish - chicken and low calorie dressing salads tomorrow.
The best French dip I ever ate was at the Riviera in LV back in the 1960s...
Langer’s, still owned by the Langer family, is still open, but it is on the ropes, facing the same problems that killed Coles.
In the 1950s we would visit downtown Los Angeles once a month. Dressing up in suits and ties, we would spend the day at the May Company department store at 8th and Hill. If we stayed late in the afternoon, we might have dinner at the Italian Kitchen across the street. But that was a long time ago. To complete the line from Star Wars with “and a galaxy far, far away” would not be enough. 1950s LA was more like an alternative universe away from the Downtown LA of 2025.
