A new poll has found 44 percent of Californian adults would vote for the state to leave the United States and become a fully independent nation, which the Independent California Institute (ICI) told Newsweek is a "record high poll result for secession."

Newsweek contacted California Governor Gavin Newsom for comment via email on Tuesday outside of regular office hours.

I recall hearing that there is no constitutional provision for states to leave the union.

There is a mechanism to admit new states into the union. But not for states to leave the union.

And I recall hearing there was a Supreme Court court case at one time , which declared that the union was eternable and inseparable.

So it would take a lot more than just seeing California having a referendum, and the people voting to leave the union, to make it actually happen.

Explain to these folks that if California succeeds from the union they will loose their Social Security benefits, Medicare, VA and other federal benefits. Those voting in favor may change their minds.

I think Texas is a special case—it has the right to divide into as many as five states. I suppose Congress would have to approve the recognition of any newly-formed state. There have been proposals over the years to divide Texas but none ever got very far. One problem is that all five states would want the Alamo.

Of the 44% of adults 38% were illegals.

They want California to join Mexico.

I think Texas is a special case—it has the right to divide into as many as five states.

The five-state provision for Texas was part of Texas-Tyler Treaty, which failed to get two-thirds approval in the US Senate. The Texas statehood bill, which Congress approved, had no such five-state provision.

California needs to eliminate election fraud and prosecute the corrupt cartel and CCP owned politicians along with the U.S. needs to eliminate illegal aliens from the census. They and the U.S. would be in much better shape.

Ha! I double-dog dare ‘em! Once the California delegates leave Congress, the ship of state will get back to an even keel!

But no way the DNC allows that happen. …Unless they are powerless after all.

They’ve practically destroyed it already. They cut off their water and lot. Especially in Fresno/Bakersfield area.

If they would agree to hold a county by county plebiscite and would allow counties that wish to remain part of the US to secede from California, I’d be all in favor.

Exploring more of the beautiful state of California has been on my bucket list for a long time.
But I’ve never taken the time to do it.
But if it becomes it’s own communist country I will never set foot on Californian soil again.
And neither will my wallet. Boycott to the max.

If they seceded the Chinese would be right there!
We lose access to the Pacific.
If they try and stunt like that it needs to be crushed with extreme prejudice. California then divided into 3 states.
