Sorry about the doggos! Hot and humid and no rain here. I went out early to water. I was too tired last night and the mosquitos finally came out. Pick a really nice head of broccoli, a couple of small zucchini, a cuke and some egyptian walking onions that were growing outside the main patch. Still have to go out on the patio and pick some shishitos. I have one plant in a huge pot and another elsewhere. The potted plant is almost 3X the size of any in the ground and is loaded. Stay cool!
I’m glad our dogs didn’t get it any worse - it was a young Porky, so the quills weren’t as awful as they could’ve been. Lakota (RIP) got into an adult Porky at one time and he had the battle scars to prove it. He was one tough mudder, LOL! He was a Grand Nite Champion on raccoon. We lost him to old age last year. He made it to 10, which is ancient for hunting dogs.
I’m taking a Lunch Break right now. I was out earlier and found 2 tomatoes - ‘Big Salsa’ or the like from Burpee, three bonus heads of broccoli (they I pulled the plants - the rest of the heads were going to flower due to the heat - and 8 Jalapenos for the ‘Jalapeno Pickle Relish’ which has been salted and will rest until 3pm when I cook it down. I also was able to pick enough Green Beans for my supper and of course all the cucumbers I could carry!
I have some more Mrs. Wages Mixes coming and I am going to do more Bread & Butter Pickles as well as some Kosher Dill that you can do in the fridge - but I’ll can/process some of those jars, too.
Going to water all the porch pots and give them some fertilizer when the sun shifts this afternoon. Going to fill more gallon jugs with water from the rain barrel - rumor has it we MIGHT get some rain tonight or tomorrow.
I haven’t seen any Tomato Hornworms. I think they looked at my sad state of tomatoes, laughed their heads off and moved on, LOL! Peaches are looking good and should be ready in a week. Pears, too. My oldest ‘Liberty’ apple is practically laying DOWN - with all the rain and her huge fruit-set, it’s going to be really easy to pick her clean this season.
The ‘Sabelka’ tomato is hanging in there! Lots of tomatoes on, but not ripe yet and the plant is pretty scrawny compared to last year. :( It’s KILLING me that The V-8 Juice might have to have more store-bought ingredients this year. Ugh!
