Starring Tyrone Power, Betty Grable and John Sutton, A Yank in the R.A.F. was 20th Century Fox's second-most successful film of 1941. Released three months before the attack on Pearl Harbor plunged the United States into World War II, it follows an American pilot who joins the Royal Air Force (RAF), during a period when the United States was still neutral.
Grable's a crying scene reportedly took more than six hours to film.

Tyrone Power was a pilot and member of one of the teams assigned (by Hap Arnold) to map areas of the globe during World War II.
My father in law was Irish and he flew for the RAF. Got shot down in France in 1941. Spent 4 years in POW camps including Luft III during the Great Escape. He survived.
Wow. There are tens of thousands of adventures like his that have never been told. Subsequent generations have nothing to compare.
