Somewhat ironic, a chicom company building washing machines in Kentucky.

“government will provide up to $113.5 million in tax incentives”
Government shouldn’t pick winner and losers. How about penalties for off-shoring and foreign made imports instead of tax breaks to move here? Tariffs are a good start.

The beauty of tariffs. Love it.

Now we need MALA. Make Appliances Last Again.
Really tired of reading about the latest washers and dryers and fridges lasting only 3 or 4 years. If that. Planned obsolescence should be illegal.
I remember car batteries lasting 8 or 10 years. Now it seems I am constantly replacing 2 year old batteries.

Buy Speed Queen.
Last forever. Leave ‘em to your grand kids.
Oh yeah . .made in the US of A.
Cut out your Starbucks for a few weeks. Make up the price difference. Or, buy a used one from a reputable repair shop to circle to process.
Sell it here. Make it here. Spend it here. Earn it here.
The virtuous cycle.

Like all appliance companies they need to go back to producing 80’s models. Appliances were so much more reliable then.

“GE Appliances to spend $490 million reshoring production of washing machines from China”
won’t make much difference if the domestic machines still won’t actually wash clothes because they use only a quart of water ...

My old GE just died. My wife and I decided to replace it with a 15 year old refurbished Commercial Grade Whirlpool that predates all the “water saving” features. It is almond colored, that’s how you can tell it is old. It actually cot more than some new washers ($350), but I expect it to outlast those.

The Kentucky government will provide up to $113.5 million in tax incentives for the project.I think they mean that Kentucky taxpayers will foot the bill.

Under Obama GE moved all their diagnostic imaging systems manufacturing to China. Obama had his Small Business Czar, Jeff Immelt GE CEO, improve relations with the ChiComs.

I thought pretty much every white, top loading washing machine was built in the same giant factory in Ohio with the same internal parts regardless of what brand was on the label.
Are these the fancier front-loading GE models with all the Wifi, Bluetooth, and crap on them that nobody asked for?

I would not allow any Chinese company to locate any production in the U.S. and would keep high tariffs on all Chinese imports. For economic reasons? No, geopolitical.
