I need to get rid of some wildlife in my suburban Atlanta backyard. My biggest problem is wife foxes. I have three that have dug a hole and live in the ground. They are about the size of a medium sized dog.
You should see the large hole that has been dug in the ground by an old large tree. If I do not stop the problem at the source, I will lose the tree and possibly cause problems to a neighbor’s property.
I agree with you about the possums. The armadillos dig up small spots in my yard. I can tolerate some critters on my property.
I often use those “dog proof” traps for opossums and sometimes get a raccoon in one, but then of course that doesn’t help with foxes (animal or human)!
I think the antifreeze manufacturers put in some sort of extremely bitter agent now. I was working with some with my car, and it left a very bitter, hard to remove taste on my hands. I discovered that eating a sandwich, later, and had washed my hand very thoroughly with Orange GoJo followed by regular hand soap and a thorough rinsing.
Maybe someone else can confirm?
In my case we have free range chickens, so, any medium size predator (like an opossum) is a problem. Even small predators are problems with chicks that go out with their “mom’s”.
I don’t think armadillos will bother any but a very small snake...
Muslims?
A high power .22 pellet gun* will work on varmints up to 15 lbs. or so, but might be iffy on foxes unless you are a great shot.
*Mine air rifle is 1100 FPS, depending on the pellet, so that’s getting close to the speed of sound / noisier. But, the long barrel pistol is, IIRC, more like 750 fps: Very quiet, but I’m pretty sure lacking enough punch for a fox.
What about one of those mini crossbows?
“MY air rifle...” Sheesh!
Did a search and came jup wkith a fox recipe...
It begins with
“his is the first in a series of recipes using fox meat as the main ingredient. Inflation is rising, energy and food prices are going up and people are looking for cheaper alternatives to butcher meat. What better than the ready supply of free meat available from our burgeoning urban fox population? Each recipe will provide a different way of obtaining your fox and in this article, I will cover how to prepare your fox. Then there will be a recipe with serving suggestions and wine pairing advice. Happy hunting!
First kill your fox....”
Who knows. There are not many Muslims in Emmett, though.
Those must be Transylvanian Opodillos.
And if you eliminate some, others may come back, due to the balance of nature.
You might consider getting a few American Foxhounds. The were breed to track foxes, and are aggressive at digging out their lairs.
So happy that I was looking at your posts in July, and found your post about possums eating ticks!
Now I guess I’ll over look having some possums around...
Thanks for the info, even if I found it late...
