Em. A life preserver is necessary

Tahoe spooks me. It’s deep. It’s freezing.

One of my and the wife's favorite spots, we got married there as well. When it comes to boats we stick to the M.S. Dixie II

I lived in South Lake Tahoe for a short period in 1978-79 and that lake scared the crap out of me when I heard how deep and cold it was. Beautiful to look at but not to enter IMO.

How did this goof permit his boat to get sided by swells? Simply power on and slice those swells head-on and gtfo out of a cove where you really don’t have any business being in with souls on board.

You’ve got to give Lake Tahoe complete respect.

Nice lake. I’ve vacationed there several times.

But I bet there are a bunch of people who rent boats there who think it’s just a nice little lake. It’s a big piece of water that is deep and cold. When it gets rolling I imagine “rookies” can get into trouble.

Add in some beer and wine…and you have trouble.

Lived in Tahoe for 12 years and spent a lot of time on the lake water skiing and windsurfing - I pretty sure I’ve jumped off that rock in the background.
Big swells have swamped big tour boats on the east shore in Zepher Cove - I think it was the Tahoe Queen.

The lake average depth is 1000’ with the deepest known spot at 1600’. Water temp about 50-54 degrees. The lake holds 121 million acre feet of water - enough to cover the state of Cali with 14”. Contrast that with Lake Powell which has over 2000 miles of shoreline but holds just 21 million acre feet of water at full pool.
