If there’s one place to find unexpected food combinations, it’s social media. TikTok recipes abound with weird combos like chamoy and pickles, whipped cream and lemonade or Jell-O mix and grapes. The mashup going viral right now is wine with jalapeños. People drop a few thin slices of fresh jalapeño into a cold glass of white or rosé and rave about the taste.
At first, this pairing seems ridiculous. But I’m a certified taster and the author of How to Taste, and I can tell you that there’s solid logic behind this trend.

We visited Ruidoso some years ago & found a delicious sweet red wine infused with habanero. I love spicy food, & I regret not buying several cases of that wine. Now I just add a tiny amount of habanero spice to my home brew.
That is some good beer, cold.
And I'm an amateur who just does it part-time.

I bought a 6-pack about 30 years ago, and I tell you what, it was like liquid fire! Might have been a hotter-than-average batch, or maybe it had been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years, maximizing that chili goodness!

I bought a 6 pack of that Cave Creek Chili Beer once. Couldn’t even get one of them down. The rest went down the drain.

I thought that was a distasteful gimmick beer until I drank it with my BBQ, it is a superb food beer.
