Well, historically, the ‘Church’ (going back to Luther) held Jews in low esteem because ‘they killed Jesus’. This has mostly dissipated in the 20th century Protestant church, however, I recently had this discussion with a Central American friend who grew up Catholic. He concurred that the pejorative teaching that the ‘Jews killed Jesus’ is still taught - at least in his country.

Conversely, I’ve noticed kids that grew up in my church, and went away to college (often Christian colleges), come home with very pejorative views regarding Israel.

They seem not to know, that Israel is one of the most technically advanced countries in the world and have a remarkable agricultural and water management industry - the world needs to learn from them.

Luther, though he is a poster boy for anti semitism and his diatribes against them were used by the Nazis, was not really an antisemite. He just hated anyone who didn’t agree with Luther’s point of view.

Luther called Calvin and Zwingli as devils, called Catholics as the devil, cursed the peasants who revolted against Luther’s prince friends etc.

Luther initially wrote good stuff about the Jews until he realised that they weren’t getting convinced by his rhetoric to become Lutheran. Then he hated them a d called for their properties to be confiscated etc.

This is quite different from the Nazi view which was Darwinian
