RIP
I saw what you did there.
It wasn’t that great then. Sly received death threats for having an integrated band.
Just like Miles Davis took a bunch of crap for playing with white musicians.
I remember Sly Stone. My date and I went to see him at the San Diego Sports Arena around 1971-72. He was a no-show and the concert had to be cancelled. He was known for over-dosing and failing to show up at his concerts. We had a few choice words for him. However, his music was amazing.
Yep. At my university, he scheduled a concert (1971). The warm up acts did their thing.
Sly was in the field house dressing room and decided (Unbeknownst to us) he was not going to play that night.
An hour went by, then 2 hours. Finally some one announced Mr Stone was unwell. We damn near tore the field house down as his reputation preceded him and we knew better.
No refund due to his illness. I'll say "illness"! Mental damn illness!
S-tier is one level above A-tier. Sort of like A++
Amazing he loved as long as he did.
BTW, did you know Ike Turner beat Tina to death? : )
Loved, lived, what’s the difference?
**It wasn’t that great then. Sly received death threats for having an integrated band.**
True but he had crossover appeal.
While we can all give him credit for his music bringing the races together his non-appearance at concerts were unacceptable to everyone. Let me say it’s a black thing. Too many live down to the level of what’s expected of them. The ones we love the most will disappoint us the most. Think OJ.
So I tried to google it and I'm start to find that it is some sort of game lingo.
Tier rankings may be listed using letter gradings. The competitive community surrounding Guilty Gear Xrd, for instance, ranks characters as 'S', 'S-', 'A+', and 'A', where 'S tiers' are particularly powerful and 'A tiers' less so.[3] Major video game news websites such as The Daily Dot, Kotaku and PC Gamer have published their own tier lists for popular games.[4][5][6] 'S' tier may stand for "Special", "Super", or the Japanese word for "Exemplary" (秀, shū), and originates from the widespread use in Japanese culture of an 'S' grade for advertising and academic grading.[1][7]At the age of 72, I find culture is exponentially falling to rock bottom. Rest in Peace, Sly. You picked an opportune time.
So embarrassing. getting old.
Yes. Tina was lucky to make it out of that marriage!
Looking at her career vs Ike’s, she got the last laugh
I heard the funeral is only going to be a Family Affair.
I’ll find the door (and be mice elf again)...
He was Everyday People................Thanks for the memories, Sly, Rest in peace.................
It’s not a black thing. Some of everybody is messed up. Look at last summer’s Madonna tour. Sly had issues. Sly had a lot issues. Most people who seek fame do to some level.
The Black Panthers pressured him to replace the white members of his band. He refused.
Good for him
I always wondered if that rumor of him and Audrey Williams was true
She had an lust appetite for sure
I know of course folks here swear they know it’s true
Nashville gossip the gift that gives forever
