There are over 1 million foreign students in the United States. The largest group by far are Chinese students whose numbers have fluctuated between a third and a quarter of a million. These students are in America to gain training in this country, not only at top universities like Harvard, but at tech companies, before taking their knowledge and skills back to China.

The students themselves don’t need to be indoctrinated by our leftist teachers. They’ll stay more sane in their own lands and come to appreciate the USA more as tourists.
I have read the permission that is sometimes clearly given. In some places it is, and others, it’s not.
Part of me dislikes this, because the poster only gives one paragraph, followed by the excerpt status. It’s his website. He COULD post the whole piece many times. Never participates on FR other than to post an article that is often “borrowed” from someone else. He doesn’t respond to anyone at all. Even if you PM him, he doesn’t respond. I’ve tried.
Sometimes I think it’s a bot.
To me, he’s not legitimate. Just because someone puts a title in front of their name doesn’t make them who they say they are. There are fakes all over.
If he uses FR to bring eyeballs to his own website, which is what this is, then he should at least donate heavily to FR. He wouldn’t have the traffic he does without FR.
JMHO, and thank you for reaching out.
They are taking the desks of American students.
Knew this decades ago with my little university had an influx of Iranian students that year. The school bent over backwards for them by going to the bell curve and you know which side they were on and which side American students slid down to. We had to attend class and do the work. They got to sleep in, never attend class or take a single test. Thankfully, I had taken 21/hrs every semester and summers and worked registration to get first pick of classes so was able to get the heck out in 3 years before things got too weird.
Right…I pretty much have the same view on it.
An H1B holder can bring their spouse and their unmarried kids under 21. Don’t know how the parents of the H1B holder and spouse get in. But they do and I doubt they just babysit/housesit. The kids can go to school. At some point, when/if they’re old enough, they can apply for green cards.
I don’t like the situation, either, but Indians know a lot about Muslims that I hope they share with their COEXIST friends.
Schools LOVE their money!
Not to mention the loads of foreign athletes who get first class coaching, support, media exposure and experience at American colleges, then compete for their own countries.
But we do need them!
Quite a few foreign students go to Harvard, MIT, or Stanford, get research-based degrees in biotech, engineering, etc. and start companies right here in the USA! Some of these companies became profitable, or are sold to larger, profitable US companies! And these foreign students become US citizens and raise American families!
Yes, we admit too many Palestinians and muslims, and too many Chinese communists. But a lager number of foreign students fit the description above!
We are also training their future leaders, perhaps to adopt better ways of governing. It is even possible to Evangelize some of them. ...just passing thoughts.
There are always two sides to every coin.
No, they are here mostly to improve their own lives. Governments make pawns out of everybody.
...and hate them to their core.
Yep.
It is not logical to assume everyone coming here has good intentions.
Most other countries don’t assume this.
