A survivalist is issuing a warning for hikers and outdoorsmen in the Ozarks of Arkansas: steer clear of the area.
Shawn Hendrix's warning comes amid an ongoing search for prison escapee and former Gateway Police Department Chief Grant Hardin, 56, who fled from a medium-security prison in Calico Rock on Sunday, May 25, according to the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC).
Nicknamed the "Devil in the Ozarks," Hardin was serving decades in prison for murder and rape.
"I think that the big thing that gets him caught or dead in the field is getting injured … or a foodborne illness — he drinks some bad water," Hendrix told Fox News Digital. "Now, if he gets dysentery or some kind of really bad foodborne or waterborne illness, that could take him out real quick. So, let's hope that he drinks some bad water and has some really terrible disease that gets him out of the woods because my biggest concern is that if you're a hiker or a camper or hunter out there, you're not going to see it coming."
Hendrix added that Hardin has shown little regard for human life in the past, and "every person in the woods right now is an opportunity for equipment for this guy." Arkansas authorities have warned that the escapee may be armed and dangerous.
"I definitely would stay clear of the area," he said.
Hardin escaped prison through a sally port, wearing a makeshift ADC-style uniform, ADC communications director Rand Champion said last week, noting the uniform he was wearing was not official.

I got even heavier at one point
But a job where I was on my feet all day and the first round of COVID-19(84) - after 18 months of exposure brought me down - unfortunately I gained about 40lbs back and hit 268 a few months ago (December) - I weighed 235-237 last night and have had almost nothing to eat for about 24 hours now except a couple of small bags of chips as a snack and a couple of sips of soda.
I AM getting a bit hungry right now but may hold off until this afternoon to eat.
They should be warning the chief not to tangle with any ridge runners.

There ya go!
His best bet would be to get to LA and pitch a tent in the Skid Row homeless encampment.
Of course, if he does get giardia or something of the sort, he'll lose a lot of weight in a hurry. Might make him more agile, if he recovers.
This time of year it wouldn't even have to be a LA homeless encampment..
He ain’t thin.
He may be spotted by aerial sensors that can pick up body heat (particularly at night), urine, motion, even noise. And there could be wildlife cams...
They keep tracking bloodhounds at prison he was allowed to leave. Guards opened doors for him, they claim he fooled them by wearing clothing similar to guards’ uniform. Bloodhounds tracked his scent for about a quarter mile, and then it rained really hard and no more trail. It’s hot and humid, not too many mosquitos but ticks will eat you alive. Terrain is amazingly rugged, heavily wooded, lots of water to cross, streams and white river. Pretty hilly, lots of caves. If he’s still in Arkansas it will be nearly impossible to find him in the woods.

That’s an idea
