Massie: House suspended rules for Trump bill
X ^ | June 5 | Rep. Thomas Massie

Posted on 06/05/2025 1:16:50 PM PDT by RandFan

@RepThomasMassie

The house has a 72 hour rule which requires the bill to be posted 72 hours before passage.

BUT the Speaker circumvented this rule with a “managers amendment” that re-wrote and added substantial portions of the bill as it went through the rules committee the night the bill was passed.

There’s another House rule which requires a day to pass before voting on a bill after the rules committee has modified it.

Would you believe the House voted to suspend that so-called “same day rule”?! 😳

This means the final language of the bill was released only a few minutes before debate began. The vote on the rule change and the vote on the bill followed within a couple of hours.

Elon is right, members of congress didn’t even know what was in this bill until the night it passed. A few other members have also made this clear.

Congress has abdicated its responsibilities to the point where I don’t even think they read the bills. They are supposed to run oversight on agencies (e.g., EPA) but those agencies pass rules and regulations that end up being Full Employment Acts for those agencies. Couple that with kickbacks from NGOs like we see in USAID and it becomes obvious that the bureaucrats run the gov’t. Haas one dime of the USAID graft been returned or the administrators put in jail. No. And until Bondi and Patel start throwing crooks in jail, this Republic is in dire straights.

Either get legislation passed that includes 90% of Trump's agenda or lose your job.

Nothing else matters.

Does anyone even read the things in the bill?

Trump on Truth Social lists them precisely in several posts.

So many don’t understand what can be done and not done in a reconciliation bill.

The biggest takeaway is no filibuster. Seems some Congressional members even forget that. Discretionary spending cuts change the rules and will be filibustered.

In this climate, the Dems could get everything they like but would filibuster it anyway.

Remember in 2017 when President Trump said, “I should have come out against the wall and the Dems would demand it”?

At this point in my life, I find it easier to NOT support anything Massie approves or and vice versa...

It saves time and is never wrong...
