They insist on calling these places countries but they’re really just geographic locations on a map. These places stopped functioning as countries long ago, if they ever functioned as one to begin with.

Obviously, the issue is that while there surely are many good people in these places, there are also a good percentage of $hiheads that have ideological/political problems with us, and they are willing to settle it through force.
These are “war zones” and some of the people within these places belong to factions that are fighting against us or our allies.
Because these places have no true functioning government, allowing people in from these places is like drawing cards from a deck of 52 jokers. Unless these people did things to where they rise to the level where we are tracking them or are in our systems, they will fly under the radar even though they are a danger.
There is no vetting these people other than asking them “are you a bad guy?”
If they say no three times, then like the Tsarnaev brothers they get a green light (FBI interviews with them prior to the bombings).
The horrible thing is, (((that instead of fixing immigration and selectively targeting the known threats))), we created a “police state” of mass surveillance, grew the Intel service while aiming it inward, and side stepped Constitutional rights for citizens. The legacy of BS like the Patriot Act lives on today.
