I heard somewhere they're good for diabetics (like my wife) who I cook for several times a week. I found some at a health food store near me and we love these potatoes. I made some sweet potato chips last night, just fried in olive oil. No salt, nothing added, really sweet.
I want to try growing some but my source doesn't have any eyes and the few online seed places I've found are all out for the season.
We have been buying Japanese sweet potaties for awhile...but they seem to be getting scarce. I now only find them at a local health foods store. Would also like to grow some.
I have never grown Sweet Potatoes - as with other root crops they’re ridiculously cheap to buy in Wisconsin.
For your next growing season, I’d look to purchase them as soon as regular potatoes or Sweet Potatoes are for sale in the very early Spring in your growing zone.
Looking on-line they look pretty expensive for slips! What do you give for the potatoes themself at the store? If they are organic and/or have not been sprayed with a sprouting inhibitor (they should be able to tell you) you could probably start slips yourself. ;)
I did find you some recipes though, so this thread isn’t entirely useless, LOL!
