I need a router, and looking at TP-Link. My router is 9 years old, and probably needs a new replacement. Anyone experience problems with TP-Link routers?

Netgear has been what I’ve used for many years in different forms.

The Orbi I’ve been using for a couple years now has been almost no touch except for checking firmware is up to date after initial setup and routine items as changing the defaults.

I saw this article but I have an ASUS router (made in Taiwan) so I did a search and found a different vulnerability for ASUS. I use the ASUS Merlin firmware on my router so I can connect it to a VPN so I am not sure if mine is affected.

I have used networking hardware for decades and for sure I have never bought a TP Link device. I have seen them in thrift stores but I still wouldn’t buy one. DLink is the lowest quality I will use because Cisco owns it but all of my last 3 wifi routers have been Netgear Nighthawk. Also my hotspot. Everything else is cheap crap made in the Chinese Laogai with slave labor.

That is really anecdotal. I have bought many hard drives from liquidators as near new as being available in the original box and apparently sealed. I once bought a used hard drive from eBay which had mp3 files from billboard top 100 1960 through 2003 and also a bunch of porn on it. I of course deleted all the porn and backed up the music files before erasing it. I have no desire to have porn on any computer if I was to die suddenly and have my kids going through my data.

They are a good price for what you get. The news about backdoors to the Chicoms has been around for about a decade. I have an Asus router myself. Not cheap, but no issues and a good management portal. Netgear will do the trick, too. I have never had anything but misery with Linksys.

I have an Asus router too. I checked to see if I was infected.

As long as SSH is not enabled on the router with the port set to 53282 then you are not infected.

You probable aren’t as it has only been detected on about 9,000 devices.
