It's hard to think of a more everlasting and impactful science fiction property than "Star Trek." In 1966, what is now known as "Star Trek: The Original Series" premiered on NBC, the brainchild of creator, writer, and executive producer Gene Roddenberry. What made "Star Trek" unique for its time was its devotion to an optimistic vision of society, one where human civilization has moved past war and poverty, boldly going "where no man has gone before."

This utopian future was reflected by a diverse cast, with the crew of the USS Enterprise including a woman of African descent (Nyota Uhura, played by Nichelle Nichols) and an Asian man (Hikaru Sulu, played by George Takei). Starting in Season Two, "Star Trek" added a Russian character (Pavel Chekov, played by Walter Koenig) during a real-life period of tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.......

Every time I watch 'Balance of Terror' with my adult kids (who grew up watching Star Trek with me) ... that first scene where Spock locks onto the Romulan bridge and they all see the Romulans for the first time ... my kids always joke ...

SPOCK: "Dad! What are you doing on the Romulan bridge?"

Ah yes. I remember Jeffrey Hunter. Liked him too but I loved Susan Oliver. Died in her 50’s. Some kind of cancer. Gave me a broken heart like many of her roles.

Star Trek: The Voyage Home

One of my favorite movies, so many great moments and funny ones.

Colorful metaphors
Spock cured that with a nerve pinch.

“Do you know where they keep the nuclear wessels?”

I liked the lighter ones best (Tribbles, the Harry Mudd episodes, A Piece of the Action) and the ones that were based on recognizable SF stories (like Arena). Agree that City on the Edge of Forever is probably the best one art-wise, though.
