In a social media post, the president mused about redirecting $3 billion in research grant funding that his administration has frozen or withdrawn, but he gave no details.
President Trump floated a new plan on Monday for the $3 billion he wants to strip from Harvard University, saying in a social media post that he was thinking about using the money to fund vocational schools.
“I am considering taking THREE BILLION DOLLARS of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land,”
Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social, his social media platform.
The announcement, among the president’s Memorial Day social media messages, did not appear to refer to any new cut in funding, but rather to a redistribution of money the administration already announced it had frozen or stripped from Harvard and its research partners.
Mr. Trump gave no details about how such a plan would work.
The message was accompanied by yet another post accusing Harvard of being slow to respond to the administration’s requests for information on “foreign student lists.” Mr. Trump said his administration wanted them in order to determine how many “radicalized lunatics, troublemakers all, should not be let back into our Country.”
The posts seemed intended to keep up public relations pressure on Harvard, the nation’s oldest and wealthiest university. Harvard is engaged in an epic battle with the White House, rooted in the administration’s claims that the university tolerates antisemitism and promotes liberal ideology.
Harvard declined on Monday to comment on the president’s post.
The university is battling the White House in federal court in Boston to secure the reinstatement of grants and contracts that the government has frozen or withdrawn, amounting to more than $3 billion. In a separate lawsuit, the...

I support Harvard, where I received my PhD! NIH and NSF grants supported my education and research. Harvard had an estimated $53.2 billon endowment as of fiscal year 2024.
Why could't they have used that to fund your "education and research?"

Lower the federal income tax (as a step towards weaning USA off it). But it would be better for America to flush the money down the toilet than to keep giving it to Harvard.

1. they didn’t have that much when I went to Harvard. And my NSF Graduate Fellowship was an honor, without which I may not got intoHarvard grad school!
2. That money is allocated to other things, and also must be used for asset growth, just like your investment or retirement fund!

B) How do you prevent the money from being misused by the trade schools?
Don’t allow the trade schools to hire the fired Harvard employees.

To repeat:
....reducing the population of potential university students to “trade school” status only helps communist China become the world research leader!

There’s PLENTY for Trade Schools to research, if the money is earmarked for that purpose - such as alternative wire nut designs.
(don’t worry if you don’t know what a wire nut is, that’s Trump point...not enough people do know)

Taking money from Harvard? Is this a tax? No, there is no taking. Grants to Harvard do not belong to Harvard. Our money does not belong to Harvard.

No, I want the USA to maintain its superior status rather than conceding it to China! I’m just a former academic with a real, but rather modest, record of scientific achievement.
With China’s communism, totalitarian repression and anti-Christianity, it has a tough hill to climb to reach any intellectually superiority. However, with what Trump is now doing, he risks degrading America’s moral and intellectual standing!
People on this forum need to wake up-—and wake up really fast! Its too bad that the Democrats provide no good alternative to the MAGA Republicans, so we’re all kind of stuck right now.

Conquering cancer and Alzheimer’s is NOT “welfare”!
I only hope that they beat Alzheimer’s before I get it! And I also hope that someone can apply my patents to conquering some types of solid tumors!
Everybody wake up!

It’s quite possible that the reason we have so much much more cancer and Alzheimer’s than we used to is BECAUSE of the “research” done at places like Harvard.

We DON’T have more cancer and Alzheimer’s than we used to!
And there are new effective treatments for certain cancers that we didn’t have a few years ago!

It’s those of us who want to see effective treatments for resistant solid tumors who are up against a tough problem.
