Oscar Mayer unveils the “Wienie 500,” a first-ever Wienermobile race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, streaming live May 23 ahead of Sunday’s Indy 500.
Oscar Mayer is putting mustard on the pedal to the metal with the first-ever “Wienie 500,” a race between all six of its iconic Wienermobiles ahead of the Indianapolis 500.
The oversized hot dogs on wheels will compete in a lighthearted race on the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway track on Friday at 2 p.m. EST as part of the Indy 500 weekend.
"The Wienie 500 will also mark the first ‘meat-up’ of all six Wienermobiles in over a decade and the first competitive race for the fleet," Oscar Meyer said in a statement. "From custom Hotdogger racing suits, to a trophy presentation in the ‘Wiener’s Circle’, complete with a condiment spray and hot dog for the wiener’s enjoyment, every moment of the race is designed to spark smiles."
Each Wienermobile will represent a different dog from a U.S. region:
Chi Dog — Midwest
New York Dog — East
Slaw Dog — Southeast
Sonoran Dog — Southwest
Chili Dog — South
Seattle Dog — Northwest
Kelsey Rice, Oscar Mayer's brand communications director, said the "Indy 500 marks the unofficial kickoff of summer and the start of hot dog season."
The hot dog race will be streamed live on the FOX Sports app and across @INDYCARonFOX social accounts. Highlights will also be shown on Sunday during the Indy 500 pre-race show on FOX.
I still have to go with the Detroit Coney.
The best Jerry, the Best.
When they are drifting through mud corners at high speed Ill tune in.
The very best figure-8 race I ever saw was one with full-sized school buses - THAT was hilarious.
A fun cute idea, but they do need to get the wieners moving faster.
I remember seeing one of those on TV, a long time ago. Remember figure-8 train races, where they’d chain three cars together, bumper to bumper? I think there was a guy steering in the tail-end car, besides the driver in the front car.
What ever happened to good clean fun like that?
This is more like it! Advertisers take notice. Just good clean fun. I can’t post on this topic without saying that I relish the opportunity to watch this and hope that even the last one can ketchup with the first one and keep the race close even though I don’t have a dog in this race.
Banya? Is that you?
The judges need to watch those boys from Chili Dog (the South) and Sonoran Dog (the Southwest.) Those boys know how to drop and engine or two extra as in HEMI 426 cubic inches with a blower in that huge wiener mobile. There is room for at least 2 or 3.
If they do wheelies off the line you will know they cheated. LOL
Actually Oscar Meyer was brilliant in getting this part of the 500. So much free advertising.
