Recently met a young man in his 20s at a business event - noted his name was “Standish”
I asked him, half-joking, “so are you related to Myles Standish of the Mayflower?”
I was surprised that he immediately knew what I was talking about and said “yeah, that’s what my grandparents say. He’s like my 9th great grandfather or something...”
America lives....
a forgotten concept.
Proverbs 22:1
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”
Great story. That’s refreshing to hear.
“He’s like my 9th great grandfather or something...”
It’s always sad that people usually don’t get interested in their roots and their ancestors until all the living ones have passed. I hope that young man starts his own genealogy research and taps his grandparents wealth of family history and knowledge. But you generally can’t impart that desire to your kids. I’ve studied our family history a lot and documented it, but my kids could not care less.
