Proverbs 22:1
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”
LEGACY !
a forgotten concept.
I’m descended from both Warren and Cooke, as well as Cooke’s son John who was too young to sign.
The Cookes, especially John, seem to have respected God and been suspicious of everyone else, while treating them respectfully. My kind of folk.
There are so many branches of the family tree that end in question marks in New England that it wouldn’t surprise me if I’m descended from some of the others as well.
Louis L’Amour has a nice line about “Ancestors are for people who haven’t done anything themselves”, but that has to be balanced with a realization that formation matters, and a lack of formation/heritage is a handicap, even if it potentially can be overcome.
