I’m sure that was what caused mine- but i mighta speeded up the damage with suppliments-

I'm with you my friend. My GFR = 17 but that's much better than being on dialysis, which I was for three years!

While ibuprofen (Advil) is not a supplement, many treat it that way. It will kill your kidneys. Untreated high blood pressure will do it also.

I don't disagree that some supplements can cause kidney damage (other damage, too), it may weaken your kidneys to the point that other problems push your kidneys over the edge. Once over that edge, they likely do not recover -- ever. Mine did recover, though, through dramatic lifestyle changes.

The average doctor knows next to nothing about supplementation.

Maybe. That's not been my experience.

Perhaps they don't know because supplements are hocus pocus. They are marketed with words like a new iPhone or a new car. If you doubt that Google any particular supplement and see all the outlandish claims that suddenly appear. There is no massive volume of evidence/research for their safety and efficacy. And that's what most doctors are trained on and follow. Most supplements are just words to convince you that they solve some problem you perceive you may have.

Lemme guess, you need to drink 10 gallons a day to get enough compound to cause an issue. Meanwhile your heart is likely to object long before then.

More, and more I’m seeing negative stories about supplements come out.

Perhaps the pharmaceutical industry doesn't want people to explore options other than the use of their chemicals.

Assuming that vitamin D and magnesium are sufficient, try adding in a collagen peptide beverage. In general, collagen peptides are touted for anti-aging properties because our production of collagen declines with age.

In my experience, when added to vitamin D and magnesium, the result of collagen peptides was remarkable. After an initial several days of fatigue, my circulation and level of energy improved. Areas of skin on my face turned red and then cleared to new skin. Friends and family described me as looking much healthier, which was how I felt.

Another line of inquiry would be to check for possible GI issues like celiac disease or food intolerances. They can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies that have a wide range of effects.

You might want to try an NADH supplement and alpha lipoic acid. They can be helpful with fatigue type disorders.

...I restrict my Cabernet Sauvignon for when I have a good steak dinner.

Yum, it’s a must.

I just got back from our Safeway store grocery shopping. They do small wine tastings! I tried a Justin winery Cab from Paso Robles. Very good. I’d never heard of it before, but the lady pouring the samples said they are a long-time name in Paso Robles.

17, uggh- that’s low- but yeah, better than dialysis for sure- I keep dipping to stage 4 and can’t get scans with contrast as a result- but they tell me to drink lots of water before (and after) the test- to bring it up to stage 3- seems to have worked- nothin liek travelling 120 miles to be told they can’t do the cuz of GFR

The study:

Retinol Intake and Bone Mineral Density in the Elderly
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1359/jbmr.2002.17.8.1349

Swedish researchers arrived to the same conclusion.

I did take Alpha lipoic acid- (nerve damage in feet and hand due to severed nerve)- I didn’t see much difference- i have not tried the collagen liquid though- I will check that out- I agree it might be Chronic Fatigue- due to symptoms- Especially the PEM, which is a huge issue- days of recovery after doing hardly anything- and it hits 2 days after, not right away- which is classic PEM I guess - but could be a number of other things too-

Haven’t tried NADH either- got it in my amazon list though-

I have been tested for celiac- I have GI disease- so they keep track of that pretty well-

Well yeah, but even the best of programming is still dependent upon accurate & relevant data, for without accurate & relevant data, it's garbage in, garbage out.

With AI the algorithms determine & direct how and what data is needed to be looked up and where the relevant data is located, while scripts determine the formatting of the output results of the data collected.

But now the algorithms and/or scripts are also getting more involved in the creation of algorithms & scripts, which they also call machine learning. In reality, the logging of where data by topics are located, in order to speed up data retrieval time. It really is quite the sophisticated programming advances being applied.

But it still took human minds to develop, which is why they will still need to keep many humans connected to technology development, in my opinion, because machines cannot think bond the boundaries that humans developed for them to operate within.

If they believe differently they will be very sorry down the road to only have the existing programming tools in existence without human intelligence for innovation.

Because machines can't see innovation and work towards that end. It can only see what is made available to it.

Humans on the other hand possess real intelligence that does allow some to see the innovations that can be developed.

It has been human innovations that have brought the power of computing to the point where it is today. Computing power by machine should never even be considered as a replacement for humans or become complacent in producing even smarter human beings that the Lord created.

This is really just a high-level look at the process and is in no way meant to be all inclusive, as that would require far more than I am willing to spend on the effort to provide that. Also, I most likely do not even know all of what is involved myself. 😋

You made an excellent & valuable point. 🙂👍

Thank you for the far more informative post on the topic of taurine supplements in your post #23. I am passing it on to the Freeper Bob434 who had asked the question.

I'm sure he would love to know more about it. 🙂👍

Hmmm, you may want to give that more thought, as I do not see any skeleton's walking about. As I age, my muscle strength has decreased making it harder & harder to get around.

Just a suggestion. 🙂👍

BINGO!

They feed the lab rats huuuuge amounts.

I believe it will soon be "news" be noteworthy, if a lab rat DOES NOT end up with cancer.
