U.S. customs agents find parrots stuffed in man’s boots

In two separate incidents at Otay Mesa and San Ysidro, agents discovered a total of 28 parrots and three chickens during suspected smuggling attempts.

The first incident unfolded on April 30 at the Otay Mesa port of entry. After the 51-year-old driver exited his vehicle, officers noticed peculiar bulges around his ankles. A safety pat-down revealed a shocking discovery: six live, undeclared parrots crammed inside the man’s boots, according to a CBP release.

A further search of the vehicle uncovered six additional parrots, sadly, two of which had died.

Just days later, on May 4, at the San Ysidro port of entry, inspectors became suspicious of a blanket moving in the trunk of a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man. Upon inspection, they found two cages: one holding 16 live parakeets and the other containing the three live chickens.

How is a pet parrot locked up in a bird cage going to infect other birds? These restrictions on smuggling pets are product of lobbyists from pet industry.
a parrot costs 1 dollar in some countries. I am afraid to ask what it costs in american pet shop.

My neighbor had an African grey parrot.

It was captured from the wild and was an unhappy, vicious bird.

The parrot died last year at about 40 years of age.

Why is this in the news? Hasn’t it happened to all of us at some point? More than once.

I wonder who tipped them off? Oh. Right. A stool pigeon.

Well, hell. They’re probably too big to fit into women’s boots.

I hate people who abuse animals. Off with his head!

Parrots are beautiful and extremely smart. Must have been a horrible experience for them..

At the Canadian border a man was trying to bring in waterfowl in his (wait for it) panta-loons.

My parents in India had a beautiful green and red parrot. He could mimic human voice amazingly well. Parrots can live long time if cared for properly. Personally I prefer a small furry dog for pet. Our last dog was a Lhasa Apso female. She did not shed hair, and lived 16 years and never was sick. I think brushing her teeth daily was the reason she never got sick. Her teeth remained sparkling white till the end and never had the bad dog breath. I will soon get another Lhasa.

Birdman here. He needs to have done to him what he did to those poor birds.

And maybe smeared with honey and seed, and the birds’ beaks equipped with little razors.
