The rabbi may be locked into the mindset that all things must be based on ‘fairness and equity’. That is a flawed mindset, when one side is quite vocal at wanting to kill the other side. The Quakers in early America had similar core beliefs.
Some would call that mindset ‘dangerously naive and a deliberate suspension of disbelief’.

“South Africa”, and “Rabbi”, what a strange combination of words. Neither Boer nor Bantu were Jewish...yet Jews were instrumental in ending the Apartheid which led to our present circumstances.

Ironically, it has long been forgotten that at one time the Afrikaners were solidly on the Left. The Left supported them during the Boer Wars (which were interpreted as wars against capitalism) and one Afrikaner member of the SA parliament in the early 20th century caused a furor by singing the old socialist song The Red Flag. As late as the 1920s one of the complaints of South African socialists was that capitalism didn't care what color one's skin was (while socialists did).
Similarly the ancestors of many American farmers in the Midwest and elsewhere were radical Left in their economic views back in the 1890's. Some of that old leftist anti-capitalism still exists in some of the rhetoric against "finance capital," "usury," and You Know Who.
Easy for them to say from their Miami townhome.
South Africa hasn't quite degenerated to the level of Zimbabwe, where there was active ethnic cleansing of white farmers, but there are enough incidents of racial violence against whites by the Bantu majority population to make it pretty clear that's the direction SA is heading. The ANC stays in power by fomenting the Bantu's racial grievances, and alternatives to the ANC are even more extreme.
Thousands of dead white farmers trumps all these idiots with their opinions.
If the main attitude of the Jews in SA is that the “talk of genocide in their country is nuts”, then I can kind of understand why this guy would feel the way he does about them.
Why should he be expected to have any warm feelings toward people who are completely indifferent to the plight of him and his kin?
Haven’t plenty of Jews already left South Africa? Shain is wrong to ridicule the fears. Have we learned nothing from history? Who can see what’s coming 5, 10, 20 years down the road? But I can understand the rabbi not wanting to see a stampede out of South Africa now. It’s his home and home to the Afrikaners and they understandably don’t want to hand the country over to the radical white-haters.
