Erik and Lyle Menendez will have a new shot at freedom after 35 years behind bars for murdering their parents, a judge has ruled.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic reduced the brothers’ sentences from life without parole to 50 years to life.
They are now eligible for parole under California’s youthful offender law because they committed the crime under the age of 26.

There are people who are victims of abuse. There are evil people who try to claim they were victims in order to excuse their own evil acts.
I noticed that too. Not sure it’s difference in perps but just a difference in the original media framing. If a case like this happened now, I bet it would be a pretty different reaction by all sides. I could be wrong.

They were 21 and 18. They could have just walked away and left if the accusations were true. It was all about the money.

Is that “youthful offenders” law an ex-post-facto law in their case?
The last DA district attorney wanted to release the two killers but he was voted out before that happened. He came very close before the new DA who is conservative took over.
Newsom will have the parole board recommend release if he realizes he will not be president. When he became governor he had the gas chamber dismantled after he promise not to.
He is a democrat and supports criminals.
