I’m surprised that she did not even have a student visa. Wouldn’t that have applied in this sort of situation given that she is a college student?

If she didn’t have a “proper” driver’s license, then how did she buy car insurance?
Did she have car insurance or not?

It’s actually an International Driver’s Permit (IDP):

I’d call that a fortuitous mistake.

” it’s just heartbreaking that a mistake by a police officer cost this person her freedom ultimately and may cost her her residency in the United States.”

Heartbreaking to her, I’m sure. But not really for me.

“We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say there was no ill intent on the part of this police officer, it’s just heartbreaking that a mistake by a police officer cost this person her freedom ultimately and may cost her her residency in the United States.”

A mistake by the police officer didn’t cost her freedom nor her residency. An error by her family to enter and live illegally in a foreign country cost the family their freedom and residency here. End of story.

Urinalist weasel.

She lost her residency cuz she had no legal residency and was here illegally. THAT is why she’s deported. Quit blame shifting and trying to make the lawbreaker the victim.

During the stop, authorities said the 19-year-old, who is in the country illegally, didn’t have a proper driver’s license and was taken into custody at the scene and later detained by immigration enforcement authorities.

She's here illegally. That's the ONLY thing that matters in this story. She needs to go home.

No...no it isn’t. Serendipity is a good thing! Get the whole Hee Haw Arias-Cristobol family..Where’s Mom? She should want to self deport with them....We should let her.

I get one quite often. I get it at the AAA Travel services. It covers me driving in most countries. However, it is only good in addition to my state driver’s license.

“a mistake by a police officer cost this person her freedom”

The “mistake” was hers when she came here illegally.

Which Charity did ‘we the people’ pay to traffic her ‘illegal’ butt into OUR country.... ‘We the people’ should file class action law suits against these fake charity, workers of the devil.

So let’s see....in the country ILLEGALLY....driving without a license.....I’m guessing no insurance since she didn’t have a license.....yeah, deport her.

What’s maddening is how long she and her parents have been able to get away with breaking US immigration law. Deport them all.

Some countries require International Drivers Licenses. I have rented cars in Canada and Britain with just my plain old state license. Canada a very easy place to drive. Britain, and it's not just tenez la gauche, is not.

International driver licenses have been around for decades and we’re required when you rented or drove vehicles in other countries. Not so much anymore but a few countries still require them.
