Todays sex ed came from the homos and pedophiles. What could go wrong?
Back in 1960, we had all sorts of questions about sex as 12 year old boys. Our parents were hung up about it generally.It was a forbidden topic.
To satisfy my curiosity I sometimes frequented a used book store looking curiously at sexy romance novels and book about human anatomy.
As I passed a table stacked with books, a little old wrinkled lady wearing a kerchief hair cover said, “Try this....,” sliding a used book over to me. I blushed, stuttered ,embarrassed,picked up the book, hurrying down through the books stacks.I was ready to leave the store, feeling so embarrassed. But something made me stop and look at the book.
It was titled, “ Memoirs of a Lady of Pleasure” by John Cleland. As a boy of 12, I had been reading all sorts of adventure novels,and historical novels. I was hooked on reading.The book was used and was priced at 50 cents.I got up enough nerve to purchase it with the old man at the cash register smirking as I paid.
What was it about this book? I began reading it that night and finished it in several days, hiding it under my bed.
That was likely the best sex education I could have received.
When my son turned 12 many years ago, I discretely slipped a brand new edition of that book into his book shelf.Didn’t really say anything about it. Years later he thanked me saying it was an eye opener for him, and it answered a lot of questions he had about the confusing way things were before he read the book.Today he is happily married and I have three delightful grand children.
