European leaders have called US President Donald Trump to discuss proposals for a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine from Monday while on a visit to Kyiv.
The call came after leaders of the so-called "coalition of the willing" held a meeting to discuss advancing peace talks.
The leaders of France, Germany, the UK and Poland were hosted in person by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, while others joined remotely.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the coalition backed a "full and unconditional" ceasefire - originally mooted by Trump - and that the EU was ready to "impose further biting sanctions" if it was broken.
Trump earlier reiterated the call for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire after a phone call with Zelensky.
"If the ceasefire is not respected, the US and its partners will impose further sanctions," he wrote on social media.
As the meeting was going on, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was already "used to sanctions" and knew how to minimise their impact, adding: "There is no point in trying to scare us with these sanctions."
Meanwhile, Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president and now deputy head of Russia's Security Council, told the European allies to "shove these peace plans".

This is President Trump’s ceasefire plan. Putin needs to get with the program and stop playing games with President Trump.

Or what? (From his point of view)
LOL!
He is Doink his best Little Green Goblin impression!
And we thought our President was the only Master Troll.
But of course Putin would still be allowed to receive military aid from his b*tt-buddy, Kim Jong Un, right? As well as from Xi and the mad mullahs of Iran?
Regards,
You should advocate for President Trump instead of caring about how Putin feels.

Probably
Again there is no incentive or need for Russia to sign a 30 day Cease fire from their point of view
(I hope I’m proven wrong and Russia announces they agree to it right after I post this )
Putin's point of view is the only one you have ever given any credence. You have never, in any of your postings, conceded Ukraine the slightest benefit, or cut Zelensky any slack. Nor have you ever attempted to portray things from the P.O.V. of Western Europe or the United States. In fact, you are now actively taking issue with President Trump's sincere cease-fire proposal.
Whose side are you on, anyway?
(Claiming that you are a "realist" is a cop-out. In your case, it is the "last refuge of scoundrels," to paraphrase Samuel Johnson.)
Regards,
You should advocate for President Trump instead of caring about how Putin feels.

I don’t care about feelings
I care about facts and reality
Only liberals care about feelings and ignore the facts and reality
The reality is that President Trump will squash Putin like a bug if he doesn’t get on board with the ceasefire.
So you admit that Putin is entirely unmoved by humanitarian considerations and lacking in compassion, and that the thousands of Slavs dying weekly on the battlefield and in the rocket-bombed civilian centers of Ukraine are a quantité negligeable to him?
So you agree that Putin is a sociopathic monster, or, vulgo, evil?
For once, we concur!
Regards,
I’m not taking issue with anything
Explain to me why Putin would agree to this cease fire plan from his point of view
All it does is give Ukraine a pause to rearm and rebuild military when the line of combat is being pushed further and further west every day and that pace has been increasing the past 2 weeks
So you agree that Putin is a sociopathic monster, or, vulgo, evil?
For once, we concur!

We can call him all the names we want to and debate all day on Free Republic
It still doesn’t change the current military situation on the ground
It’s not even Minsk III. It’s just a ceasefire. A ceasefire is not a peace plan, it’s just a ceasefire. In this case, it benefits only one side: Ukraine/NATO. The Russians would be fools to go for it, and all involved know it.
It’s all just political posturing. They came up with a “peace plan” which is actually just a ceasefire, one they know the Ukrainians will accept and the Russians cannot. Then they can say “See? We tried to make peace, but those Russians are meanies.” Then it’s sanctions package #597 and more arms and aid packages to Ukraine. And so it goes on and on.
The reality is that President Trump will squash Putin like a bug if he doesn’t get on board with the ceasefire.

How?
Send out mean tweets(or truths)
Send another 100 billion of arms to Ukraine?
Put the 50th round of sanctions on Russia?
The leaders of Brazil and China were just in Moscow for v-day parade
The Indian president was going to go but cancelled because of the situation with Pakistan
So it’s not like Russia is isolated
Maybe you can explain to us exactly how Trump will “squash Putin like a bug”? We’re waiting ...
Hey Mucous, quit posting as though you speak for the President.
You don’t.
“Russia doesn’t need the ceasefire
Ukraine does”
War is deception. Ukraine has exacted huge tolls on the Russian military. I have my doubts that Russia has the materials left for prolonged offensive operations, except people to ‘waste’. Summer will soon come, and we will see if the Russians can be offensive, or Ukraine.
Yep, this is exactly why they all want Trump dragged in now.
Zelensky asked for what is coming and they want Trump to stop it.
The problem the US has is that our allies are largely made of a bunch of marxist pantywaists who rely on us to do their fighting and funding.
