Don’t mind Def Leppard, but no Floyd?
1. Stones
2. The Who
3. Zep
4. Pink Floyd
5. Beatles (not a fan, but I’ll allow it)...LOL

What’s funny is that PF, before Dark Side, was very much a cult band. They are pretty much known for just two albums: Dark Side and The Wall.

Personally, my favorite PF album is Meddle.

I’d definitely want Genesis towards the top of that list.

No hollies? No black sabbath? The who? The police? Queen? Hard rock? -The kinks were banned from playing in the US. That’s hard.. deep purple? small faces? Ac/dc members were mostly from the UK.

There are two types of “greatest” lists IMO.

One is by popularity and the other is by quality.

The latter list would not include the Stones, IMO. And yeah, the Hollies and Genesis would be on that list.

Kinks made some great albums in the 70s, that were mostly ignored, especially “Muswell Hillbillies”.

Lists like this serve only as clickbait and excuse to argue about silly things. A waste of time.

Now that I got that out of the way, Floyd, Radiohead and Sabbath belong in there. Def Leppard, most assuredly, does not.

Yep. I’d definitely put ELP or the Moody Blues above them. But again, are we categorizing by quality or popularity?

He was supposed to reunite with Peter Frampton before the fatal fire. They had recorded a few tunes together.

Well, I’m a huge fan of early Genesis. So quality wise, definitely Gabriel. But regarding popularity, Collins, but it was also very high quality.

I sold hi-fi back in the 70’s and early 80’s. One of my fellow salesmen had a degree in acoustic engineering. He had custom built a pair of speakers that used EV components and each of them had twin 18” woofers. I put on Firth of Fifth, and as soon as that piano came in I was already blown away. But when the organ pedal tones came in for the long instrumental run, it was absolutely breathtaking.

He had good damping on his turntable. 😁

I’d have to say, my two favorite Genesis albums are A Trick Of The Tail, and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

But I prefer Phil’s versions of the Gabriel songs on “Seconds Out” to the originals, especially “Cinema Show”.

What’s funny is that PF, before Dark Side, was very much a cult band. They are pretty much known for just two albums: Dark Side and The Wall.

Personally, my favorite PF album is Meddle.

Even after DSOTM, Floyd was still considered mostly an underground band, known only for their albums and live shows. Never played on the radio or mentioned in pop culture, except in trendy rock journals, only fans knew them.

That ended with the insane success of The Wall. All of a sudden they were on the radio and the Grammys.

I love Meddle. But, I can't decide between that, WYWH or Animals as my favorite.

BTW, I HIGHLY recommend the just released BluRay of the Pompei film. Looks and sounds spectacular.

Stones had a great run from Beggar’s Banquet to Exile On Main Street. But since then, I found their stuff kind of meh.

There were so many outstanding British bands, it’s hard to rate them. I agree with your top 3, although I’d say Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin.

Probably my favorite PF song is “Wot’s Uh The Deal”, glad that Gilmour still plays it at his live shows.

Supertramp (esp.) and ELO (maybe) should be considered.
