Okay, maybe not the biggest most famous band but Dire Straits has to be up there. So good.

Animals would have been in my top 10 at least. House of the rising sun done in one take. Chas chandler performed some simple but extremely powerful bass lines. Garage bands including mine loved their songs.

Chas went on to discover and manage jimi hendrix. Eric burdon was one of the first to know about hendrix’s death.

I saw the Hollies w/Graham Nash at a local Dayton,OH teen club (The Caverns) in the basement area of a shopping center.

The stage was, at most, 12” high so the band was “right there”.

Their last song was introduced by GN as “Milk Cow Blues”...but it was “Bus Stop”.

In the very early concert days of the group RUSH (when they were the opening act) they would play the Beatles’ song “Bad Boy” (which was originally written and played by somebody before them). “Now Junior.....behave yourself!”

By 1963, Bill Haley was passe, Buddy Holly was dead, and Elvis was in the army. Teen idols like Fabian and Franky Avalon ruled the airwaves. Many in the music industry said the Rock n Roll fad was over.

Then, in February 1964, the Beatles jumped started the whole genre.

Anyone who dismisses The Beatles, is just being a contrarian.

I disagree.

True.

Frankie Avalon, Beach Boys, Jan and Dean. Pretty bubble gum. Hey, we got the Monkees from it!

Iron Maiden over Def Leppard. Def became crap when the drummer went one-arm bandit.

That’s your opinion, you’re entitled to it. I can’t see how Hendrix or Joplin were influenced in any way, their music was entirely different, hard rock for sure as were many other bands. For me, they just weren’t proficient enough musically, and also the radio stations overplayed them. But I like some of their acid days, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Band was a step up for them I believe. Before that, I was cringing every time I heard “I want to hold your hand”. Pure pop.

I’m not a huge Queen fan, but I also won’t pretend that they didn’t make some great music and leave an impression on the industry that some still try to mimic today.

Mutt Lange ruined Def Leppard, like he ruined AC/DC.

Not technically a “Band”, but Elton John’s band in the 70s, may very well have been the best group of musicians put together.

A great instrumental band, but little known and that’s a pity. I have two of their albums, Live Stock and I forget what the other one is. Phil Collins played drums on some of the tracks.

I saw them all, except Pink Floyd (was sick, missed them), and each one you listed was way better than the Beatles or the Stones.

If you can find a copy of Moroccan Roll, buy it. It’s their best album.

Masques is also very good.
