The libraries in my area have also eliminated many older books and added newer trash. Was especially sad to find 1898 Sherlock Holmes gone.
Their policy is books not checked out within some period of time are removed to clear shelf space.

“Their policy is books not checked out within some period of time are removed to clear shelf space.”

NOW, there is a reasonable explanation.

The other part is that the love of reading is not promoted anymore, and not valued.

The leftist politics comes from the result of publicly-funded assets where those hired treat it like a sinacure.

I was a librarian for 38 years. After I retired, I understand that the next one discarded many or most of the classics. Who knows what is there now! I don’t want to see it.

The libraries in towns and cities need to be defunded and eliminated.

That is hard for me a lifelong reader easily going through 150 to 200 books per year

However libraries are leftist cesspools and the obvious easiest place to defend leftism on a local level.

Hardly anyone uses them and one can argue that the internet has replaced them.

That’s pretty much the policy of nearly every community library.

There is only so much shelf space. If a book isn’t checked out in more than X amount of time, they are sold off at the next friends of the libraries book sale, and the space is used for newer books.

There are I am sure some books that are exempted from this general policy, but that’s pretty regular.
