How the pope gets paid and a look into the Vatican's finances

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church does not get paid what many consider a traditional salary. Instead, the Vatican provides for the pontiff's needs, from housing, food, transportation and other expenses in the form of stipends and allowances.

The Vatican, referred to as "the world's smallest country," is sustained by "an economy that relies on a combination of donations, private enterprises, and investments to generate revenue," according to Investopedia.

Pope Francis declined any sort of salary when he took office in 2013, The Economic Times reported back in February, adding that the pontiff at the time had a net worth of "around $16 million, which includes various assets provided to him as the pope."

The Vatican's financial situation has been in peril for years, with its annual operating deficit growing to over $90 million in 2023, according to reports. In November, Pope Francis warned that the Vatican's pension fund — which provides pensions to employees of the Holy See and Vatican City State — has been facing a "severe prospective imbalance" that "tends to grow over time in the absence of interventions," according to the Vatican News.

WHO told you you were going to go to hell??

Your friends in Rome maybe educated, but they certainly aren't smart. They just don't want to go to Mass.

HATING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS EVIL!!! hating ANY Christian Church is EVIL.

My veryCatholic mother told me I was going to hell at least five times a day. Even when I was four years old. Incidentally, she died of Korsakov’s syndrome. Which means she drank herself to death. Beautiful but extremely mean woman.

I think my Mom did about me at times. She had a long wooden spoon...after the Nuns were done. “Preach Heaven and beat the hell out of you”.

This is what turned me off about the Catholic Church: During the early 60’s a priest from the local church came into my dad’s welding shop. My father greeted him, they shook hands. Two nuns accompanied the priest. The priest said to my dad “You have quite a business here, Ray. Perhaps you could find it in your heart to donate a bit more of your wealth?”. My dad blew a gasket. He built metal shelves for the church kitchen when it was built, for cost of materials only. He thawed out the water line to the church with his portable welder during one very cold winter, free of charge. He made many generous contributions. He flat out told the priest , “You are driving a brand new Cadillac convertable, and you’re asking me for money? Get the fuk out of my shop!”. The priest turned beet red and almost ran out of the shop. The younger nun was astonished and kept saying, “Father he said the “F” word! “ The priest said “shut the hell up and get in the damn car”. True story.

Where did you read that? Knowing that something exists is not the same as seeing it. I have seen the the public displays in the Vatican Museum.
