Alligators occur from southeast Oklahoma and east Texas on the western side of their range to North Carolina and Florida in the east. They prefer fresh water lakes and slow-moving rivers and their associated wetlands, but they also can be found in brackish water habitats.

“Never go kayaking where gators live.”
Unless armed, and then only MAYBE.
Like any other predator, if threatened, best to dispatch the animal and deal with any consequences later.

Last summer we went to Crystal River and rented a house that had kayaks and a boathouse. On our very first day there, I was sitting on the edge of the property along the canal. I thought I saw a gator in there, so called to my hubby. As soon as I yelled, that alligator turned around and came towards me and went up to the boathouse. No thanks. I ran back inside the screened lanai. We decided no kayaking on that trip.
