“I don’t think Alice Cooper was anywhere near “Death Metal”. They (and he) were more into the macabre stage show than “Metal” music.

Of course he wasn’t. People looking back have claimed he was a pioneer of the harder, angry rock (plus the makeup) that led to metal.

Other pioneering music: Country Swing, pioneered by Bob Wills, who was kicked out of the music union around 1920. The style was declared “not music.”

Rockabilly, which led to rock-n-roll. Hated by traditional country mavens.

Same with outlaw country, which the music industry fought and tried to kill off, led by Chet Atkins, who hated the music style and the long hair, the lack of wearing suits, the drugs, etc.

There are many examples.

I am very glad my closest neighbor is a quarter mile away out of sight.

The old family place had a 1/4 mile driveway, visitors were visible all the way in. “Oh look, Henry is coming up the driveway...”

Debris falling from one ‘trailer lot’ into another.
Or wasn’t that mentioned in the article?

I saw Cooper at the Hollywood Bowl. Definitely not death metal. The first clue is that he had competent musicians.

“I don’t think Alice Cooper was anywhere near Death Metal”

More like “Beer Metal” in his case.

He was a friend of my late cousin in the early Phoenix rock scene.

He defies any definition and genre.

He’s Alice Effin Cooper.

Genres try to be him.

😄

My cousin was in a Phoenix rock band that shared stages and personnel with Alice. He was routinely over at my aunt’s house. Golf and beer and rock apparently was the main interest.

My cousin died young, undoubtedly a consequence of the rock lifestyle. I believe it was liver disease, probably cirrhosis. A shame.
