DAO could potentially decrease the acid in your stomach leading to better nutrient absorption.

With no duodenum, it really decreases your nutrient absorption, especially iron and calcium.

Ouch, that is quite a procedure. I lost the other end, part of transverse, descending and sigmoid to colon cancer. Had a colostomy for a year and then reconnection surgery. Amazing what they can do these days.

Here is an interesting research journal article that specifically mentions Diamine Oxidase Enzyme and nutrient absorption in the small intestine.

Interesting paper on what stimulates DAO. Loss of the duodenum ensures lactose intolerance and reduces iron absorption. I was already anemic in January 2024 from a gastric bleed and poor iron absorption. I found a source of "heme" iron from dissicated liver to be more effective than a simple source like ferrous sulphate that needs an acidic stomach and a working duodenum to absorb.

I'm going to ask my doctor for a PET scan referral on Wednesday so I can determine if there is any lingering cancer. I have never been evaluated on the success of the surgery and I had too many post operative infections to engage in chemo. It's a last "hail Mary" before I lose my employer sponsored healthcare on June 8th and move to Medicare.

Congrats on getting stitched back into a normal config. It's nicer to run as close to OEM parts as possible.
