But answer me this: If manners, propriety, and civility all are fleeting and utterly nonimportant, especially IF you like a person, FROM AFAR, then just WHY have such thing been EXTREMELY important throughout all of recorded history?
Since the by now hoary old "DO YOUR OWN THING", was/is still just OH SO "WONDERFUL", then WHY are you not aghast at recent stories about a woman passenger on a plane who stripped naked and defecated on a seat"? Or...were you upset about that?
And no, I am NOT saying that that plane story is on the same level, but it IS on the same disregard for what is expected. Ummmmmmmmm...okay, maybe not; but people wearing pajamas or worse, on a plane, is a better fit. Because once upon a time, people wore nice clothes to fly in.
The First Lady wearing a sleek black pantsuit to a Ball that wasn't even a Ball is not high on the list. It even seems almost silly to quibble about it, considering all of the things we have seen in seven plus decades.
