The Kremlin on Thursday blasted President Trump’s historic mineral rights deal with Ukraine inked a day earlier, sarcastically praising the US leader for making a deal with a nation that will soon “disappear.”

“Trump has finally pressured the Kiev regime to pay for US aid with mineral resources,” Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on Telegram. “Now, the country that is about to disappear will have to use its national wealth to pay for military supplies.”

The State Department has already notified Congress of its intent to sell $50 million or more in military equipment to Ukraine in what would be the first deal of its kind under the Trump administration, according to reports.

Erasing the second biggest country in Europe, a nation of 40 million people, is as Nazi as it gets.

But, but, but they are not waving Nazi flags. The other side must be the Nazis. That is what we are always told.

“. . . there is absolutely no (U.S) national interest in Ukraine.”

Apparently President Trump thinks getting the minerals are in our national interest.

Since the Russians are now parked over our minerals, they can get bill for rent every month.

Oil is under $60 now, thanks to OPEC+. That’s cheap.

The minerals and getting are money is in our national interest.

Continuing to a fund a war that can only result in Ukraine losing more lives and territory most certainly is not.

And, you apparently, think fighting a war over minerals justifies hundreds of thousands being killed.

“And, you apparently, think fighting a war over minerals justifies hundreds of thousands being killed.”

You write that because of my post 22 which, in its entirety, reads: “Apparently President Trump thinks getting the minerals are in our national interest.”

I’m not following your thinking here.

“The US gets an interest in the nation, which means if they decide to pull another event of “Vlad the Invader” they are going to threaten the US directly.”

Correct, but this also means that the U.S. will be entangled with Ukraine for a long time with unpredictable consequences. Is Ukraine, a corrupt nation led by a mercurial dictator, really the kind of country that we want to embrace that way?

How does the US giving 50 million or more to Ukraine help?

Arms for minerals?

“U.S. firms get exclusive rights to key Ukrainian resources and rebuilding projects.”

Supposedly. Interpretations of commitments can vary.

I have no problem with getting minerals through ethnic deals but not through fighting wars, which is what Lindsey Graham has openly advocated.

If you agree, we're on the same side.

It’s business and resources. Do I think Ukraine is corrupt? Absolutely. How about the United States with Joe Biden, Act Blue, and the DNC? Absolutely.

It’s business. There is a possibility, more likely than not, that it will lead to more stability, less corruption, and better relations with Russia. Yes, bad things can happen, we can agree with that. Peace and normal business can also happen.

I think this deal is worth the risk for everyone involved.

A fair assessment, and yes we have a real corruption problem of our own. I just worry that one of the “bad things” that can happen is a confrontation with Russia over someone’s miscalculation. My view is that nothing in Ukraine is worth the unthinkable consequences of igniting WWIII.

Business arraignment with the USA, Russia, Ukraine and others changes the game a lot. Now there is self interest and we can begin to talk about win/win negotiation.

Not at all. The is a holy war for Russian supramacists like Putin. That’s why any “business” agreement is pointless. Putin’s regime employs the historical Bolshevik negotiating tactic: “What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is negotiable.” He’ll bank any concessions given and come back for more later. The disease here is violent Russian revanchism and it must defeated. There will be no peace until Russians understand clearly that in the 21st century they will not be allowed to genocidally mass murder their neighbors and steal their resources for the benefit of their corrupt “nation”.
