#1; I think they should retain Alcatraz for national park tourist purposes and movie sets.

It would be cheaper to appropriate and federalize more land along the US Mexico border in Texas or New Mexico and build a new prison facility there. (Look at all that vacant land!)

Route the Border fence around the U.S. Side of the "facility" so any escape would necessarily be into Mexico. Put the exercise yard on mostly ungarded Mexican side. (Show how compassionate we are....sell water canteens and U.N. maps to the nearest town in Mexico in the Prison store. "Bienvenidos a Mexico Amigos!")

It would also provide jobs for an area that needs them. Why reward San Francisco with any more Federal funds? Also Cheaper to build a new military airport, control tower, a radar of course. This should be able to handle large transport planes and patrol helicopters. and patrol drones. They could also provide Quarters and mess hall for US Border Patrol agents and U.S. Military, rec facilities and possibly some base housing.

Then the President can say "I - Stock our prison with the worst kinds of people!"

I wonder about McNeil Island in WA. Even though it is “closed” (used to house sexual offenders now) and owned by the state of WA - it should be cheaper to get it up and running again than to refurbish/rebuild Alcatraz.

And Gitmo enhanced, including a SCIF room and a second courthouse, more barracks, etc. And Auto-Pen couldn’t close it.
