For cleaning the skin prior to DMSO application, are soap and water sufficient?

I haven’t read about the kind of soap one should use but, if it were me, I’d use surgical soap and definitely not a soap with perfumes or chemicals that can hurt a human if ingested. Soaps with povidone-iodine should be very safe. I’m not sure about soaps containing chlorhexidine gluconate. Both chemicals may be found in surgical soaps.

I should have mentioned that surgical soap is superior because it kills bacteria and other microorganisms on the surface of the skin.
