A Utah mom woke up to the police knocking on her door Sunday morning, telling her that her 7-year-old son had taken his 5-year-old sister on a drive to a different city.
According to the Ogden Police Department, they received calls about a reckless driver around 8 a.m. on April 27. Officers began to pursue the vehicle, but soon disengaged when they noticed the age of the driver and assessed the risk to the public.
The vehicle later hit a parking strip, and police responded to the scene of the crash. The children were found unharmed, according to officers.
The drive from the family’s home in Clearfield to where the car crashed in Ogden was about 10 miles.

“”Most 17 year-old teens can’t, and have no interest in, driving these days.””
Do you know why? My grandson is 16 and not even interested in getting his drivers permit. I told him I will soon be giving up driving and my car will be his. I get a Ho Hum from him. He pretends he doesn’t hear me when I ask him WHY he’s not interested...Beats me...
10 miles....that’s further than I drive to the grocery store once a week...
There is probably some truth to that.
Today’s parents tend to ‘Bubble-Wrap’ their kids, some do it because they see other parents hovering and acting that way.
There are also lots of Tattletales, hidden behind their living room curtains. Nanny-Staters who will call CPS if you let your child walk to school.
He's got nowhere to go. We didn't either, no matter how many times we'd cruise the main drag, but weren't wise to that truth. These kids don't go cruising anymore because they don't have to. They can reach out to their friends through their mobile phones.
Their friends might be states away since their immediate neighbors, often transplanted foreigners with completely different mindsets, aren't their friends.
Uphill in the snow both ways.
Spokeshave who recalls as a small child walking in the snow to the corner ship to purchase 6 pennyworth of broken biscuits....and the joy of finding a chocolate biscuit in the mix.
I was driving at seven, most ranchers kids could do that to deliver straw or water. I was the only one who could stop the old blue water tank truck without running through the gate... All the adults got in a hurry and impatient and ran through that gate... lol
Laq-uan Johnson?
Did he get his Mickey D’s chow?
Reportage really sucks these days...
So, no McDonald’s?

On icy days, we'd wrap our feet in barbed wire to keep from slipping.

I wouldn’t complain and would call it a silver lining. Have you priced insurance for the under age 16 year old kid yet? You might find it a blessing he isn’t in a hurry to drive. :)
Man, my daughter told me what she is paying for two of my grandkids to drive and she had to get a second job to pay for it...
President Trump and Elon Musk should definitely assist this kid. That kind of “go-getter” spirit should be guided towards the good and the light, with a little McD’s every so often.
I saw that right after I posted my comment. 😄
The kid went to all that trouble. He should at least get his Happy Meal.
That's an old Bill Cosby routine... from an album I had a waaaaay long time ago.
Exactly.
There’s that.

Why would they? WE cruised because there were cool looking interesting cars — some works of art IMO. Look at the boring generic crap on the roads today. They all look ALIKE.
That might be why he was driving recklessly...when he put his foot on the gas or the brakes, his eyes were below the dashboard; when his eyes were above the dashboard, he couldn’t put his foot on the peddles.
