Trump signs sweeping orders cracking down on sanctuary cities, giving 30 days to comply

WASHINGTON — President Trump signed executive orders Monday evening, kicking off a crackdown on sanctuary jurisdictions such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and all of New York — after previously calling for their federal funding to be cut.

One order the 78-year-old inked behind closed doors in the Oval Office gives Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem 30 days to draw up a list of cities and states that “obstruct the enforcement of federal immigration laws.”

“Immediately following each publication… the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall notify each sanctuary jurisdiction regarding its defiance of Federal immigration law enforcement and any potential violations of Federal criminal law,” it instructs.

After that, federal agencies will scour their books for any funding — including grants and contracts — to revoke in coordination with the White House Office of Management and Budget.

If sanctuary jurisdictions don’t change their laws, “the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall pursue all necessary legal remedies and enforcement measures to end these violations and bring such jurisdictions into compliance with the laws of the United States,” the order says.

“no one is above the law” — where did you hear such a silly proposition?

I've heard that no one is above the law.

I heard that too. But there seems to be another part to that steadfast principle. "...Except for the Democrats and their friends".

Let's see how this works out. A procession of Democrats orange jumpsuits would be a great indicator. All the rest of the "bombshell announcements" sound like noise to me.

Supremacy clause. Big law is bigger than little law.

This is going to make them all want to hurt him.

The simple way is to let it leak they are going into every major city except for (some little town). Wait a while they surround that town.

This is a terrible idea. It’s going to push these illegal alien invaders out into other jurisdictions which was their plan all along.

The list of “who isn’t a sanctuary jurisdiction” would be shorter”.

Start arresting any and all of these who support ‘sanctuary’ laws or policies:

Governors
State legislators
State-level judges/court commissioners
County Commissioners
County-level judges/court commissioners
Mayors
City Councilmen/equivalent
City Managers
Municipal Judges/court commissioners

They need to add “counties” to that list, it’s not just cities and states. Like Hillsborough County, Florida which is a sanctuary county in a red state with a “hands-off the Hispanics and the illegals” policy, which the county sheriff and the county prosecutors and the county judges here all live by.

I swear it’s either cartel money or the billionaire land and property developers who are doing the greasing, since they rely on cheap foreign labor to get all of their labor-intensive projects done. I think parts of Florida are more like a narco state than anything else.

With 380,000 Venezuelan nationals calling Miami and Orlando home, Florida hosts fifty percent of the national total Venezuelan population. And Maduro hates every one of them. Think about that. It’s one reason why he sent Tren de Aragua here.

The old line has never been more true about the libs - when they complain about what conservatives are doing, they are already doing.

In today’s news- Los Angeles County:

The county Board of Supervisors is expected Tuesday to approve a $4 billion settlement of more than 6,800 claims of sexual abuse allegedly perpetrated in juvenile facilities or foster care as far back as the 1980s, billed as the “costliest” such payout in county history. The payout is expected to have implications on the county budget.

implications....Ya think?

What the feds can do constitutionally is limited because of the 10th Amendment and the anti-commandeering doctrine.

In short, the feds cannot cut use federal funding as a hammer to force states to enforce federal law. They can't obstruct, but they can refuse to assist in any way.

Trump ordered federal agencies to scour their books for any tax dollars funding sanctuary cities — including grants and contracts — which shall be revoked in coordination with the White House Office of Management and Budget.

I beg to differ. In the 70’s, the feds TOLD the states to lower their speed limits to 55 or will lose federal funding.
And ALL the states did!

True. But Trump does not have the legal authority to cut off all funding to these cities and states. There are limits to that authority.

The states do not have to cooperate with federal law enforcement actions. However if they impede or interfere with those actions they are breaking the law. Whether cities have the same sovereignty as the state I don’t know. Most cities exist (or were incorporated) through legislation passed by the state. How that effects their relationship with the federal government , I don’t know.
