Top Pollster Slaps Down Media Claim That Trump Numbers Are Falling

The first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second administration are being marked by international economic victories, domestic manufacturing wins, and record deportations of illegal immigrants. However, one ignominious milepost of the mainstream media’s coverage has been the president’s declining poll numbers, with continual reports that they are at the lowest point in modern history.

Not so, one pollster told Fox News who shot down the notion that President Trump’s numbers are in “free fall.” Those results, proffered by multiple media outlets and private pollsters, don’t square with others showing Trump voters remain happy with their choice in November.

“None of them, to be honest with you. I have a group of pollsters I look at who are public pollsters who’ve been right in all three of Trump’s cycles,” pollster Matt Towery said Monday on “The Ingraham Angle.” “We happen to be one of those. None of us have had him down by any of these numbers we’ve seen before. The only one that might concern me at all is the Fox News one because Fox did well in the 24 cycle.”

The Fox News host asked her guest if he was concerned by poll results from ABC News, CBS News and CNN showing declining ratings in voters’ approval of Trump’s job performance or handling of various high-profile issues, including tariffs, the general economy, and illegal immigration.

“So that’s the only one of these other ones — I looked at some of them. They are absolutely, I don’t like to criticize polling, but how can you have a poll, as John McLaughlin, a good friend of mine pointed out, how could you have a poll that shows Donald Trump at 39%?” Towery asked. “But yet when you ask people who they voted for and they said they voted for Trump, like 95% said they would vote for him again.”

The ABC poll, produced in partnership with The Washington Post and Ipsos and released on Sunday, shows Trump’s approval rating slipping to 39%, a 6-point drop since a similar poll was conducted in February. Thirty-seven percent expressed trust in Trump to manage the economy compared to just 30% who felt Democrats in Congress could do a better job, the Daily Caller reported.

“Now, last time I checked, Donald Trump got almost 50% of the vote. So how in the world can that poll be correct? There’s no possible way,” Towery said. “He’s not in free fall. He’s had a little bit of slippage because he’s doing a lot. He’s breaking a lot of eggs to make an omelet, but he is not dropping in any significant way. I can guarantee you, and I’m just not paying any attention to this nonsense. They were wrong in the elections in the past, and they’re going to be wrong about his approval rating as well.”

Towery’s criticisms of his industry were echoed by Jason Corley of Quantus Insights who chided fellow pollsters for leaving their “fingerprints” on results that historically have artificially inflated voters’ support for generic congressional Democrats.

“These are not isolated misses. They are consistent, directional, and embedded in the structure of how modern polls are conducted,” he said about the industry’s inability to capture surging support for Trump in swing states in 2016 and 2024.

We all knew a hundred days ago what the “polls” would be showing around Trumps hundred day mark.
