Julius Caesar once commented in one of his writings that as societies turn wealthy, they become fat, opulent, and effeminate... neaning soft and squishy... that was the downfall.
My 7th grade history teacher said Rome started going downhill after they instituted the dole....I believe he was right and we’re seeing the effects in all the socialist/socializing countries of the world as welfare replaces productivity.
