Coach Prime put out a statement that might haunt him.

I love what the @Browns have done this offseason but if I'm a young QB ain't no way I'm going to Cleveland. I would pull a ELI MANNING If possible. #ThinkAboutthat #Truth

There’s two reasons he didn’t go higher in the draft...the big one is: He’s Neon Dion’s kid. No team wants the side-show.
Second, he’s just not that good. Too many negatives going for him. Too small, not mobile, too hesitant, slow.
And then, there’s the side-show.
I’m surprised if he’s in the league two years from now.

Chad Kelly brought championships to some CFL franchises.

Hardly irrelevant.

Deion Sanders may be a bit flamboyant but this man has had an outstanding, productive career. He was a great athlete in both football and baseball. His teammates in both sports have said he was a great teammate, never disruptive, and was very coachable. As a coach he has taken athletes from difficult backgrounds and helped them become successful. It is incredibly difficult to coach your own sons but he did it as well as could be expected. Of course he is disappointed that his sons were not drafted in the early rounds but their stories are by no means over.

Sanders is a decent man, a very competent coach and will have no trouble signing elite recruits and transfers. Auburn made a generational mistake when they failed to sign him. Suspect next head coaching spot for him will be Florida State if he ever wants to leave Colorodo.

I was googling for one of the many Browns QB disasters, Johnny Manziel. The search summary before the links had an overview of his short career followed by "See also     Shedeur Sanders     Colorado Buffaloes football". Oof! Even the AI is talking smack.

Shedder and Shilo should have had a more athletic mom.

Eli Manning only had any leverage because his brother Peyton had already demonstrated that the family pedigree was top caliber. And Elway’s leverage was based on his multi-sport background and a large contract offer from the New York Yankees while he was still at Stanford.

Deion might have been an asset for Shedeur instead of a liability if he had been a Hall of Fame QB instead of a defensive back.

The kid also would have been much better off — if he really has NFL talent — playing in a top conference for someone other than his daddy.

This is an old post, and it is probably from a time when another regime was in charge.

Sanders’ only leverage is to re-enter the draft next year, play in the USFL, or play in the CFL.

I would say the CFL is the only real alternative, but that is a different game.

He could also sue to re-enter college football. Recent history suggests he may win given NIL and the transfer portal.

That would completely break the system because a player could opt out after getting drafted. Suppose a guy knows he can make more with NIL than his 2nd round draft position. Now that team is out of a pick and player.

I think that the reason QB Sanders was avoided by the GM / Owners of the NFL is that he has never competed with another QB for the position.
Daddy was the coach at almost all levels.
Show Boat ? yes, Early draft pick? NOT SO FAST!

There are prolly others, but I can only remember one guy who said that and stuck to it. John Elway was supposed to go to Baltimore, but balked; said he’d quit football first and wound up in Denver instead. I never really liked Elway, but he DID keep his word in that case.

Looking at the list of brand owners with the biggest advertising deals with NFL players, you can see how hawking any of them in Cleveland would have far lower returns than in other markets.

Belk
Bose
Buick
Danon
Delta Air Lines
DirecTV
Dunkin’ Donuts
EA Sports

So.....what is your point? It kind of sounds like you are trying to justify their uncooperative, childish conduct.

The football teams should have refused to draft either of them.

True dat, Libloather!

Deion has always been more flash and glitter than even his on-field deeds (either sport) would warrant, IMO. He’s always been a grand self-promoter.
Now, it seems that he’s instilling that same ethic in his son, but the son is a bit of a slow learner.
Hence...daddy is rowing the boat.

I grew up in WA and was a Husky fan (and now alum). Warren Moon was NOT drafted then decided to go to the CFL. He got zero interest from the NFL because back then there were no black quarterbacks. After 6 seasons in the CFL, including 5 Grey Cup victories, he was signed by the Oilers.

The player that you are thinking of was John Elway. He was drafted by the Colts (original Baltimore Colts). Elway threatened to play baseball instead because he did not want to play for Frank Kush (HC). At the draft, the Colts took Elway, and the Broncos took Chris Hinton. A few weeks later they swapped picks, with the Colts also getting Mark Herrmann, and the Bronco’s first round choice in 1984.

There is also the Eli Manning debacle where he was drafted by the Chargers and then traded for Philip Rivers, who was drafted by the Giants.

Bo Jackson was drafted by the Bucs and chose to play baseball instead. When he came back the Bucs had lost his rights and he signed with the Raiders.

Jim Kelly was drafted by the Bills, refused to play for them and went to the USFL. When the USFL folded, he decided to play for the Bills.

Rich Gannon was drafted by the Pats, and they wanted to convert him to an RB or WR. He was upset so they traded him to the Vikings.

Bruce Clark was drafted by GB, who wanted to turn him into a NT. He refused, went to the CFL for a few years, then came back and signed with the Saints.

Kyler Murray was drafted by the Baseball A’s, but stayed in college one more year then decided he liked football better and was drafted by the Cardinals.

Kelly Stouffer was drafted by the Cardinals, sat out his rookie year, then signed with the Seahawks.
